PRACTICAL PRODUCT GUIDE

How to prepare a supplier CSV for Shopify

Start with a supported CSV

Export your spreadsheet as UTF-8 CSV. Choose the correct delimiter: comma, semicolon, or tab. Keep a unique header for every column. Cataloguy supports files up to 5 MB, 10,000 product rows, and 100 columns.

Map title, SKU, and price

Supplier headers vary. Match the product name to Product title, the supplier product code to SKU, and your selling price to Price. Vendor, product type, tags, and stock quantity are optional. Unmapped columns are omitted from the output.

Resolve duplicate SKUs and invalid prices

Every product needs a unique SKU. This tool treats uppercase and lowercase versions of a SKU as duplicates. Prices must be non-negative, with a decimal point and at most two decimal places. Currency symbols and ambiguous decimal formats are rejected. Stock quantities must be whole non-negative numbers.

Know when a variant-aware workflow is needed

This beta supports simple products with one default variant. Products with size, colour, or other options need a variant-aware importer. Do not flatten a variant catalogue into simple rows unless that is your intended store structure. The tool rejects recognised variant columns and repeated source handles, but cannot interpret every possible supplier format.

Validate, review, and test a small import

Correct flagged source cells, validate again, and review the resulting records. The export sets products to draft and unpublished. Test a small batch in a development store with overwrite disabled. Confirm prices, stock, handles, draft state, and store currency before using a larger file. No store reconciliation or live inventory synchronisation is performed.

Keep catalogue information local

The file is parsed in your browser. Saving a mapping stores column names, not product rows. Optional analytics, if you accept it, records only predefined usage events and coarse counts. It excludes file contents, filenames, SKUs, titles, prices, and raw error messages.

For the destination format and overwrite considerations, read Shopify’s official product CSV documentation. Cataloguy is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Shopify.
